Todd Benson

Vice Chairman

Cambridge Family Enterprise Group

Todd Benson is Vice Chairman of the Cambridge Family Enterprise Group (CFEG), a global organization devoted to helping families achieve multigenerational success for their families, enterprises, and financial wealth. Founded in 1989, CFEG is comprised of two divisions:

Cambridge Advisors to Family Enterprise, a highly specialized international advisory firm, and Cambridge Institute for Family Enterprise, an education and research institute on the forefront of insightful knowledge for family enterprises.

Mr. Benson is an accomplished investor, business builder, and trusted advisor with more than 25 years of experience in private equity, asset management, and investment banking.

Since 2011, Mr. Benson has served as the Managing Partner & CEO of Herington LLC, a boutique private investment firm. Through Herington, he serves as a board member of, senior advisor to, and/or strategic investor in numerous private equity and venture capital stage companies, as well as various private equity, private credit and hedge funds.

Prior to forming Herington, in 2000 Mr. Benson co-founded Citi Private Equity (CPE), the division of Citigroup that oversaw investments in private equity funds, co-investments in buy-out funds, and mezzanine investments. As Global Co-Head and Managing Partner, he grew CPE to a globally diversified asset management platform with assets under management of $11 billion. Working collaboratively with leading private equity firms around the globe–as a co-investor, co-sponsor, mezzanine lender, and limited partner–CPE generated returns in excess of industry benchmarks across its investment programs. Under Mr. Benson’s leadership, CPE was a fully integrated, 37-member organization with investment management, marketing/fund formation, investor relations, back office, and reporting capabilities in its New York and London offices.

Prior to CPE, Mr. Benson was a Managing Director in Salomon Smith Barney’s Investment Banking Division. He executed numerous strategic and financing transactions on behalf of companies in the media and communications industry as well as for portfolio companies of leading sector-focused private equity firms.

Mr. Benson received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School where he was elected a George F. Baker Scholar and graduated with High Distinction, and a B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Kansas.
